My husband struggles with bipolar disorder and doesn’t choose to get treatment for it. Because of this, his job, the pain and issues with his Crohn’s disease- and just life in general – can really get to him sometimes.
A big piece of my spiritual practice and emotional healing is learning how not to get sucked into his drama. I am learning to connect with my center and stay grounded, even when he acts chaotic and irrational.
Since I have learned how to be mindful and how to live in the present, I am learning to just let him be and not judge or condemn him too much. But dealing with my husband, when his bipolar rears it’s ugly head, is a continual challenge.
This past weekend was pretty tough. Bob was working on a detailed project in the driveway and garage: he purchased a used boat recently and has been fixing it up. He loves to work on projects, that’s his hobby. Continue reading “The Challenges of Dealing With My Bipolar Husband When He Acts Out”
Have you ever noticed in your daily life how many little rituals you do without even really thinking about them? For instance, everyday you get up, do your morning routine, go to work or school, have your lunch, etc., etc.
Once you start living in a mindful way, these daily rituals can be incorporated in your mindfulness practice to help you feel better on the spot. Which is very, very cool 🙂
Today let’s put our focus and attention on the present while taking a nice warm shower. This is a Healing Shower Meditation and you are doing this as a gift to yourself. This will wash away your fears, stress and anxiety, and leave you feeling refreshed and renewed! Continue reading “Healing Shower Meditation to Wash Away Your Fears, Stress & Anxiety”
The other day I had a really nice realization, an Aha Moment, as Oprah would say, about my yearning how to find inner peace. It was this:
My mind creates my problems. I am working on correcting my mind. Therefore I will get better. The end.
I was so grateful for this realization!! 😀
My suffering is the result of believing my thoughts. Simply put, my task is to dis-identify with my thoughts. This is can do. I can practice every day! It’s a lot of fun too, because it directly benefits me and makes me feel better right now! 😀
My happiness is not outside my control. I am not at the mercy of outside forces. I am not powerless. By practicing mindfulness and living in the present, I am making great strides. Continue reading “My Aha Moment on How to Find Inner Peace”
Have you ever wondered why you feel so good after taking a walk or riding a bike? Exercise has so many benefits, including the fact that it provides natural stress relief.
I’ve always tried to make time to exercise a few times a week. I consider it very important to my physical and emotional health. This morning I was on call and had to go in for an emergency appendectomy. When I left the hospital I headed straight for the gym. And as luck would have it, I happened to be in time for a Zumba class 🙂 Continue reading “Exercise & Stress Relief: Why Just 20 Minutes Feels So Good”

Yesterday at work I did a lot of watching myself- watching the thinker– and tried not to get caught up in my ego whenever possible. I made the decision to pay attention to my thoughts all day, as a spiritual practice, to help have inner peace in my day.
“The moment you start watching the thinker, a higher level of consciousness becomes activated.” -Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now.
On my drive into work, I made sure to notice my breathing and tried to feel my inner body. I also paid attention to what was going on around me during the commute- the other drivers, the houses all around me, and the great outdoors. The morning sunlight cast a beautiful glow over everything, and the sky was bright blue and cloudless.
My mind wanted to wander as it always does, but I was able to catch it and bring myself back to the present moment and my drive. Continue reading “Finding Inner Peace By Watching The Thinker at Work”
Did you know that the people around you can sense your energy? This happens mostly on a subconscious level. But it affects how people relate to you and feel about you.
You are responsible for the energy you bring into your home.
That is one of those things that everyone seems to get on a certain level, but no one really knows HOW to do it. Today I’ll show you 🙂 Continue reading “How to Bring Good Energy Into Your Home Today”
This morning I had not one iota of self-awareness. My inner calm and serenity went right out the door in an instant…
One thing I am learning, mostly through messing up, is that to have peace in your life, you have to start where you are now.
I am getting over a bad cold. We were supposed to fly to Chicago on Saturday to visit my brother and his family. But I got sick last week, and even though I tried to rest and whatnot, we ended up cancelling the whole trip. So I feel guilty about that, even though I know it would have been stupid and rude to go and stay at my brother’s house with a cough and fever. If you’ve ever suffered from anxiety or depression, you know how wonderful it feels to finally have relief. As someone who’s battled anxiety for decades, emotional wellness is always a top priority of mine. When I am in the grip of anxiety, life is a nightmare. And when I am well, the whole world is fine.
One of the ways I keep myself feeling at peace and emotionally healthy is to do The Work– this is where you inquire about the habitual negative thoughts you have by asking yourself 4 simple questions. When you unravel your thoughts, you begin to see that the opposite of what you feel is usually true or truer than the thoughts you were believing. Today I’d like to share how I am practicing a little bit of self-awareness, and reaping instant benefits from it. How I was stuck in a negativity pattern with my husband, and how, by being mindful and choosing kindness instead, how that negativity quickly turned itself around…
Bob is sick again. He is experiencing a total body exhaustion and profound tiredness that makes it hard for him to function. He sleeps all the time – on the weekend he slept all night and then woke up and fell asleep again and slept all day. This week at work he told me said he has been falling asleep at his desk a lot, something that I know he hates. I think this is one of the effects of his Remicade, and he also has a cold. So it’s a double whammy I guess… Continue reading “How Self Awareness is Healing My Marriage Today”
