Mindfulness Changed My Life, And It Can Change Yours Too.

Hi I’m Lisa 🙂 Thank you for stopping by!

I am so excited to share this blog with you, as I journal my way to self -acceptance and happiness through mindfulness and living in the present.

Let me just start by saying that today, at the ripe age of 50, I’ve finally discovered what it means to truly be happy and alive and comfortable in my own skin 🙂

This is no small accomplishment. From an early age, I recall an undercurrent of angst and unhappiness. I remember feeling unsettled growing up, the result of repressed sexual abuse. As a kid, I was a chronic worrier and overachiever. I was a straight-A student, with nails that were chewed down to stubs.

After I graduated from college and got my career established, I got married and had a son. While my adult life looked normal on the outside, inside I was still troubled.

I was chronically stressed and often overwhelmed. I was consumed with emotional pain and negativity.  My marriage was tumultuous.

I knew there must be a better way to live, but I couldn’t figure out what to do. I knew other people were happy and peaceful. Why couldn’t that be me?

In addition to all my “stuff,” in 2012 my husband, who suffers with bipolar depression, was diagnosed with a severe case of Crohn’s disease. He has been hospitalized for bowel obstructions and other complications, and for awhile we were semi-regulars at our local emergency room.

On top of all this, last year he lost his job too. The stress of his chronic illness and job worries brought lots of challenges to be sure.

In the Spring of 2013 while I was painting my dining room (getting the house ready for my son’s high school graduation party), I was listening to The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle on audio CD – when something happened to me.The Power of Now Audio CD

Suddenly it was as if Eckhart was talking to me personally. All at once, I could hear what he was saying, and could understood clearly how I was creating my own pain and unhappiness in my life, as well as see that there was a simple way out.

That was a huge A-Ha! moment…

After literally living for decades with inner turmoil and emotional pain that couldn’t be cured with with religion, 12 step groups, therapy, medication, marriage counselling, and self help books galore, I have really and truly started to finally feel good and comfortable in my own skin.

Over the past few years I have been learning more about being present and mindful and to stop resisting what is.

I am letting go of my past and all the emotional pain. I am healing my marriage and myself. I am learning for the first time what it is to taste real inner peace. I am finally learning now, not to just survive, but to THRIVE.

Mindfulness make you feel more alive. You become a better version of yourself- more happy, connected, and satisfied with life…

Today I still have struggles and setbacks, but now I see these as opportunities for improvement. Life is truly becoming simple and very sweet, even through the thorns and curve balls of life. I am thriving and happy and peaceful today and I want this for you too 🙂
